Challenge #2: Pets of Fandom: Loosely defined! Post about your pets, pets from your canon, anything you want!
I have four cats, legally, but it's more like 3 cats and half of two cats. Reb Brown - my old man cat, Stink my half blind and brain damaged cat and Kitten my murderpuss all live here full time. Reb is an indoor cat, with occasional escape attempts. Stink and Kitten are indoor/outdoor cats, mostly because they refuse to use a litter box. Well Kitten refuses, Stink doesn't really understand the concept. We also have Missy, who I see on occasion but she spends most of her time at the care home across the lane. And Buddy isn't out cat but spends most of his time here.
We also have three chickens, Jade, Fluffernutter and Jellylegs. We may get more in the spring. And we have 2 fish.
I also offer you these two fic about animals:Some Of The Adventures Of Schrödinger The Cat - A Stargate SG-1 fic about Sam's cat after the Tolen are attacked.
Proper Lawn Maintenance - A Dragon Age fic about a goat.
Poem: "The Sound of Anguish"
Jan. 4th, 2026 03:32 amWarning: This poem contains intense and controversial topics with emotional mayhem. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers. It includes traumatic loss, traumatic stress, supporting character death, a crying man, an inept messenger, reference to past losses, upset baby super-intellect, and other challenges. If these are sensitive issues for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before deciding if this is something you want to read.

Politics
Jan. 4th, 2026 02:35 amWhat’s Happening in Venezuela? Start Here
US forces struck multiple military and civilian targets in Caracas and nearby cities, and captured Maduro. Here’s what we know at this point.
Sovereign countries are not supposed to violate each other's borders or leadership, outside of properly declared war; and that's largely about defense because war of aggression is also forbidden at this time. But people have largely quite caring about those rules, which is a growing problem.

Also incase anyone missed it, there's a JANEuary Prompt event at Tumblr. Still not sure if I'm going to write anything, but I do love Jane Austen stuff, and I love Regency AUs. Oh god, if someone wrote a Ilya/Shane Regency AU I would freaking love you. (I'll have to check AO3 if there is one or not already)
Also found out Hey, Sweetheart challenge - hopefully I can think of something by then for it.

Fossils
Jan. 3rd, 2026 03:22 pmTiny chemical clues trapped inside ancient bones are revealing what animals ate, the diseases they carried, and the environments they lived in.
Researchers have uncovered thousands of preserved metabolic molecules inside fossilized bones millions of years old, offering a surprising new window into prehistoric life. The findings reveal animals’ diets, diseases, and even their surrounding climate, including evidence of warmer, wetter environments. One fossil even showed signs of a parasite still known today. This approach could transform how scientists reconstruct ancient ecosystems.
That which is small can still hold volumes. :D
Birdfeeding
Jan. 3rd, 2026 02:35 pmI fed the birds. I've seen a large flock of sparrows.
I put out water for the birds.
EDIT 1/3/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.
EDIT 1/3/25 -- I did more work around the patio.
EDIT 1/3/25 -- I filled a trolley with sticks from the brushpile beside the driveway, then dumped that in the firepit.
I saw a flock of mourning doves in the ritual meadow.
EDIT 1/3/25 -- I filled another trolley with sticks, then dumped that in the firepit.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night. It's 4:50 and still twilight, a big improvement over 4:30!
I said what what in the book you want to eyeball my book yes my book
Jan. 3rd, 2026 02:56 pmI now have O.T five days a week with stands, and P.T three days a week with stands. Long as my hip doesn't hurt like it has been, I'll be able tod o this pain free.
I need to start exercising 2 hours a day through the morning, noon and evening. Meaning break up 2 hours between those times. It's just so hard. I wish I could walk and do leg presses but I can't unfortunately.
Anyway, that's all I've got to say for now. I recommend Nineteen Steps if you like Wartime romance, sibling bonds and world war 2 stories especially settled in places other than America.
